Jamal Granick, Ph.D., LMFT has been practicing psychotherapy since obtaining his masters degree in counseling psychology from California State University, East Bay in 1994, subsequently becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC# 38084) in 2001. He has worked with individual adults, couples, adolescents and families in a variety of settings. He is currently in private practice in Albany and Palo Alto, CA. He also has an extensive background in training students in counseling skills.

Jamal obtained a doctorate in education and research at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, where he is also an assistant professor in the masters program, teaching classes in psychotherapy skills and lifespan development. He has a strong interest in the relationship between spirituality and psychology, and is co-director of the Sufism and Psychology Forum, a department of the International Association of Sufism.

He is recently conducted research on the presence of the psychotherapist and its impact on the therapeutic relationship. Other research interests include the role of spirituality in therapist training; the relationships between creativity, learning style, and achievement; and consciousness and self.

Jamal is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), the   American Psychological Association (APA), the Association of Transpersonal Psychology (ATP), California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), and the Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR).  He is also an affiliate of the Community Healing Centers (CHC).

Jamal is a long-time practitioner of martial arts, having achieved the rank of Yondan (4th degree black belt) in Aikido from the United States Aikido Federation (USAF). Favorite dojos include:
